Article brand kit

Every story published under The Cover Story World is assembled from the same parts: a cover card, a type pairing, one accent on black, and a fixed set of article components. This is that system.

Fraunces + InterBlack and gold16:9 cover card

01

The cover card

One 16:9 card opens every story and carries it into LinkedIn, WhatsApp and the PDF. The anatomy never changes; only the subject, the ground and the three keywords do.

Emerging Leaders | UAE Hazza Zaal Redefining Luxury Through Nature and Wellness CEO, Al Barari Real Estate Group
Founder & CEO, Elemental Developments
At Al Barari and through Elemental Developments, Hazza Zaal is advancing a different vision of Dubai real estate — one where luxury is measured not only by architecture and address, but by how a place makes people feel. Nature. Wellness. Calm.
Subject, cut out or shot against the ground
  1. 1 Logo lockup, top-left, fixed size across every card
  2. 2 Category tag in gold, uppercase, wide-tracked
  3. 3 Name in Fraunces, the largest element on the card
  4. 4 Subtitle — the promise of the piece, not a restatement of the name
  5. 5 Role, then organisation, in Inter
  6. 6 Standfirst, gold rule above, four lines maximum
  7. 7 Keyword strip — three words, each a full sentence
Export sizes1600×900 for the site and the PDF cover. 1080×1350 for LinkedIn and Instagram feed. 1080×1920 for stories.
Portrait cropA 400×400 square is cut from the same frame for the article byline. Centre it on the face, not the head.
File namingslug.jpg for the card, slug-portrait.jpg for the byline crop, both in /images/insights/.
02

Colour

Two layers. The site runs on red, ink and paper. The article layer — cover cards, the homepage hero, the PDF masthead — runs on black and gold. They never mix on the same surface.

Core — the site

Red#C8102EThe masthead dot, actions and emphasis. One red, used sparingly.
Ink#161616Headlines, rules and primary buttons.
Paper#FFFFFFThe page. Editorial white, never off-white for body.
Stone#F6F4F0Quiet panels and alternating sections.

Article — cards, hero and PDF

Article black#0B0B0BThe ground for every cover card and the homepage hero.
Gold#C6A15BRules, tags and the keyword strip on cover cards.
Gold deep#8F7134Gold on light grounds, where the light value fails contrast.
Ember#FF5C73The one red that survives on black. Labels and links only.

Gold is a hairline colour. On a cover card it should occupy well under five per cent of the frame: the tag, one rule, the keyword strip. If gold reads as a fill, the card is wrong.

03

Typography

Fraunces carries the name and the subtitle. Inter carries everything a reader has to process quickly. The pairing is fixed — it is the fastest way to recognise a Cover Story card at thumbnail size.

04

Photography

A five-frame set of black-and-gold still lifes. They are the connective tissue between stories — used for openers, dividers and social, never behind a subject's face.

The frame set is being finalised. Until it is published here, the rules below govern any still life used alongside a Cover Story piece.
TreatmentShot as found. No filter, no colour grade beyond a levels pass. The gold is in the objects, not in post.
CropsCrop to the grid, never to a subject. These frames read as pattern; a tight crop turns them into product photography.
With typeOnly over the darkest quadrant, at 70% ground opacity or more. If the type needs a shadow, choose another frame.
05

Article page

Every story on the site is built from the same five parts, in the same order.

  1. Kicker and headlineLatest Insights · the kind in red, then the headline in Fraunces and the standfirst beneath.
  2. Leader bylineThe 400×400 portrait crop, the name, then role, organisation and country. The organisation is dropped when the role already names it.
  3. Cover imageThe 1600×900 card, full width, directly under the byline.
  4. Body and pull quoteInter at 17px, section headings in Fraunces, one pull quote set large after the opening paragraph.
  5. Share and downloadLinkedIn, WhatsApp, Facebook, X, Instagram, email and the branded A4 PDF, generated automatically at build.

06

Do and do not

Do

  • Set the subject against a dark ground with the logo lockup top-left, always at the same size.
  • Keep the gold to rules, the tag chip and the keyword strip. It is a hairline, not a fill.
  • Let the standfirst run to four lines at most. If it needs five, the standfirst is wrong.
  • Anchor the keyword strip to the bottom-left, three words, each ending in a full stop.

Do not

  • Do not put the brand red on a cover card. Red belongs to the site, ember to the dark.
  • Do not stretch the logo lockup or place it over the subject.
  • Do not set the name in Inter, or the role in Fraunces. The pairing is fixed.
  • Do not add a drop shadow to type. Separation comes from the scrim, not the glyph.

Editions: the same card system carries all three — Asia 2026 · India 2027 · London 2027. Only the tag line changes.
